One of the key components on the three week diet is water consumption. To lose weight quickly you are going to be drinking a lot of water! Most people do not drink enough water. It is essential to drink adequate water every day. Water is the key component that helps your kidneys work at full capacity. When you don’t drink enough water your liver works overtime. The problem with this is that your liver is responsible for metabolizing fat in your body. When it is working overtime, it can not do it’s job of metabolizing the fat in your body.
With any lower carb diet, including the three week diet, you will lose some water weight along with the body fat. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. Water weight is still weight! Losing water weight is partially responsible for that bloated feeling and those tight fitting jeans!
Carbohydrates are hydrophilic, which basically means that the cause water retention. Water retention is not something that we want. Protein on the other hand, releases water from the body. Once you restrict your carb intake, you will begin to lose that stagnant water that is being stored in your body. Because of this it is critical that you replenish the water in your body to flush out the toxins and to avoid dehydration.
When you embark on a weight loss system like the three week diet, or any diet, you will want to drink ample water. When you restrict the carbohydrates, and increase the amount of water that you drink, your body will stop storing water and it will begin to work more effectively and efficiently. THe result will be a lighter and “cleaner” body!
You should shoot for drinking between 64-128 oz. of water per day. This is between a half of a gallon to a gallon every single day! That may seem like a lot at first, but you get used to it very quickly. You may find that it is difficult to drink that much water at first, but once you do it for a few days, your body will regain its natural thirst and you will actually crave it.
Let’s also be honest. You are going to pee a lot during that first week. Let the flushing begin!
